About the Director

Michelle P. Maidenberg, Ph.D., MPH, LCSW-R, CGP is President and Clinical Director of Westchester Group Works, a Center for Group Therapy located in Harrison, NY ( I maintain an individual private practice in the same office and offer treatment to individuals, couples and families, groups, and private supervision. I am currently an Adjunct Professor at New York University (NYU), teaching a graduate course in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Human Behavior in the Social Environment III (HBSE).

I received my Ph.D. from Yeshiva University, my Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from NYU, my Master’s degree in Public Health from Hunter College, and I also attended a two-year training program in marital and family therapy focusing on Family Systems Theory at SUNY Health Science Center in Brooklyn. In addition, I have advanced training in CBT from The Beck Institute, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) training from the Omega Institute and am a level II trained Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist.

I am Co-Founder and Clinical Director of “Thru My Eyes” (, a nonprofit organization that offers free clinically guided videotaping to individuals who have chronic life threatening illnesses who want to leave legacies for their children and loved ones. I also developed and supervise the CBT Program at Camp Shane, a health and weight management camp for children, adolescents and teens ( and Shane Diet & Fitness Resorts ( for young adults and adults.  They have locations in AZ, CA, GA, NY & TX.

I previously worked as clinical supervisor and clinician at the Larchmont Mamaroneck Community Counseling Center, as an adjunct professor at Fordham University and Yeshiva University, and as assistant professor at Iona College. I am a consultant for Fordham University’s Children’s FIRST where I train practitioners to work with families. I also volunteer for the Sexual Assault Violence Intervention Program (SAVI) at Mount Sinai Medical Center where I provide psychotherapeutic treatment to survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. I am a contributing editor for The GROUP Journal and am on the Board of The Boys & Girls Club in Mount Vernon.

I am a consultant, trainer and published author and often present and publish on the topics of weight loss & weight management and health related topics, parenting, child development, socialization and social skills, interpersonal relationships, marital issues, anxiety and depression, assertive training, anger management, trauma and group treatment. I recently contributed to articles in The New York TimesThe Daily NewsFitnessParentsAmerican BabyCurrent HealthLadies Home Journal and Woman’s Day magazines and many others. I am the author of “Free Your Child From Overeating” 53 Strategies For Lifelong Change Using Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy & Mindfulness, Forthcoming Spring 2016.
